Use of multi-temporal Sentinel-2 and VHR Pleiades stereo data for sustainable forest monitoring and management
We provided wall-to-wall tree species maps for large areas like the biosphere reserve Wienerwald and other forest enterprises across Austria. Additional wall-to-wall maps of growing stock with a very high level of detail (validated at stand level on the ground).
Hard Facts
EO4FOREST combined multiple data sets with the following three overarching goals: (i) Potential evaluation of Sentinel-2 to derive a wide range of forestry parameters and comparison of results with commonly available geospatial data (e.g., orthophotos), (ii) Derive relevant information products from the forestry parameters, taking into account the requirements of different stakeholders, (iii) Obtaining well-founded knowledge about suitable procedures for the optimal use of classical terrestrial inventories and - if necessary - for their adaptation.
